New York is touted as the capital of the world, probably due to the fact that it houses the headquarters of the United Nations. It is one the most widely known cities in the United States, rivaling maybe Washington, the political capital. Other places of monumental interest that might interest a visitor to New York are the Statue of Liberty which has historical importance in the United States relations with continental Europe, the Central Park {probably the world’s biggest recreational park,} and a host of other places like the Rockefeller Centre.
New York is also known for its allure of entertainment spots that modeled some of the greatest entertainers and performers in the world. The Apollo Theater is on of those with the distinction of allowing interracial acts in the 1930s, Broadway, the Madison Square Garden and the Bronx where the musical genre of hip-hop is said to have been born.
